Now Is Digital: streaming data processing for HDU

Challenge

Every streaming service sends a label its own reports, in its own format and with millions of rows. From these, the label has to work out who was streamed how many times, on which market and what it is worth, and turn that into accurate statements for artists and rights holders.

HDU, the Croatian Phonographic Association, needed a single system for its members that receives, reconciles and processes this data without manual work, and that can grow with the volume of data.

What we did

In partnership with Beyond Programming we developed Now Is Digital: a system through which all streaming data from services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer passes. It imports the reports, reconciles them with the catalogue, processes them and prepares the data for royalty statements.

The system is highly complex and built for very large volumes of data, so processing does not depend on how many reports arrive or how big they are.

It comes with a platform for artists where, in one place, they can see where they are streamed most and where their earnings are highest.

Result

The system is used daily by several record labels. All streaming data passes through it and is processed in one place, instead of in separate spreadsheets per service.

Artists have a clear view of their streams and earnings by service and market, and labels base their statements on processed, verifiable data.
